Carrier Commercial Rooftop Units

Carrier is one of the preferred companies K & D Mechanical, Inc. uses as we have a long and trusting relationship with local suppliers.   One of the leading companies in the HVAC industry, their complete line of commercial equipment and controls deliver better performance with less energy and lower environmental impact.

Willis Carrier invented modern air conditioning more than 110 years ago and Carrier has been hard at work innovating ever since.  From air-handling units to split systems to commercial packaged rooftop units, they have heating and cooling solutions for all applications.

Packaged rooftop units (RTUs) are one of our most installed items and the focus of this post.

Weather Series Rooftop Units

With 3 levels of equipment and sizes ranging from 20-100 tons, the Weather Series of single-packaged RTUs offer heating and cooling solutions for all comfort requirements.

Ideal for replacement and new construction, the Weather Series offer flexibility as units come in many efficiency levels (to match your needs/budget) with a whole menu of factory-installed options.

Flexibility

Units have dedicated vertical or horizontal supply/return configurations, which make them easier to install on replacement or new construction applications.  Plus, a variety of factory-installed options for indoor fan motors, power exhaust, dehumidification system, etc. allow us to match your requirements.

Efficiency

These energy efficient units use Novation heat exchanger technology for improved operating efficiency to reduce costs.  Scroll compressors allow the capacity (of the unit) to be changed in small increments to match your heating and/or cooling demands.

Variable-frequency drive (VFD)-controlled high efficiency indoor fan motors conserve energy while providing the exact airflow requirements for better temperature control.  In short, by providing the precise amount needed for a given function, no energy is wasted, and you maximize the value of your energy costs.

Some of the many IAQ options available in the Weather Series.

Serviceability

Weather Series units are designed for easy installation and servicing.  Single point electrical connections can be accessed through the roof curb or side of the unit which makes getting into the electrical connections easy.

ComfortLink controls

Weather Series units have ComfortLink controls that support constant volume (CV) and variable air volume (VAV) applications.   It maintains control over the unit’s major systems, which include the compressor, condenser fans, supply fan, economizer, and power exhaust.

Based on input from a space temperature sensor or thermostat, the control optimizes performance of the multiple refrigeration circuits to maintain comfort in changing conditions. The large scrolling marquee and optional navigator display provide our technicians with all the operational and performance data we need for servicing.

EcoBlue Technology reinvents the wheel

Carrier’s latest innovation is EcoBlue Technology found on select WeatherMaster and WeatherMaker models.  The goal was to improve performance and efficiency while decreasing maintenance and installation costs.

The belt drive was replaced with an all new vane axial indoor fan.  The direct-drive ECM motor and dynamically balanced blade fan delivers quieter operation and reduces operating costs. The outdoor fan system has a durable high-density composite fan blade and permanently lubricated motor bearings for high efficiency and reliability.

This simpler (and more compact) design has 75% fewer moving parts and can be up to 40% more energy efficient for lowered operating costs.  For added convenience, it has a tool-less filter access door for quicker servicing and changing of filters.

In future posts, we’ll showcase other Carrier commercial equipment installed by K & D Mechanical, Inc throughout the Seattle-Tacoma metro area.
